We’re excited to share what’s new in TestMonitor 8.4 — a release centered on test case quality and traceability. It brings two major additions to test case management: automatic revisions and a complete review cycle. Together, they help your team keep track of changes, review updates before they become active, and see exactly what was tested.Whether you’re refining test instructions or coordinating approvals across your team, TestMonitor 8.4 gives you more control at every step.
Let's dive in!
Test cases evolve alongside your software. Instructions get clarified, expected results change, and new steps are added. But when you look back at an earlier test result, you need to know what the test case looked like when it was executed.
With TestMonitor 8.4, every edit automatically creates a new revision: a snapshot of your test case at that moment. There’s no setup or extra work required.
Open the new Revisions tab on a test case to:
If an update needs another look, you can quickly check what changed and return to a previous version when needed.
Revisions are built directly into test planning and execution.
When you plan a test run, TestMonitor automatically uses the latest active revision of each test case. If a test case changes afterward, a notice lets you know that a new revision is available. You decide whether to upgrade the test case in that run.
Once a result is recorded, it stays linked to the exact revision the tester saw.
Updated the instructions for a checkout test between two test runs? The earlier run keeps the original instructions, while a run using the updated revision shows the new ones. Later edits won’t rewrite that history.
This gives your team a reliable record of what was tested, even as your test cases continue to change.
Clear instructions make testing more consistent. Reviewing those instructions before they’re used helps your team catch missing steps, unclear expectations, and other details that could affect the results.
TestMonitor 8.4 introduces an optional test case review cycle. Turn on Enable reviews in your project settings to work with four statuses: Draft, In Review, Active, and Rejected.
The new review page brings test cases and their review statuses together in one place. Use filters to find drafts, select the test cases that are ready, and request reviews for several at once.
Reviewers can then inspect each test case and approve it, moving it to active status. If it needs more work, they can reject it and reassign it to the author.
Your team can see what’s ready to use and what still needs attention
Two additional settings let you adapt the review process to your team.
Require review on changes sends an active test case back to draft whenever it’s edited. Updated instructions must go through another review before becoming active again, helping your team keep approvals meaningful as test cases evolve.
Restrict reviews to assignees ensures that only the assigned reviewer can review a test case. Users with review rights can be assigned, giving each review a clear owner.
Together, these settings help teams manage contributions and keep responsibility for approval clear.
We’ve also included several updates to support your everyday work:
The Markdown update also lays the groundwork for an upcoming AI-powered writing assistant. More on that soon!
With automatic revisions and a configurable review cycle, TestMonitor 8.4 helps your team follow every change from the first draft through approval and execution.
